India leads in vaccine production but lags behind per capita vaccine collection

New Delhi, April 17, 2021, Friday

While the corona epidemic has terrorized India, India is fighting on three fronts: corona vaccination, corona testing and corona treatment. More than 11.30 crore people have been vaccinated against corona in India so far, but the growing number of corona infections in the country has raised concerns. With a population of 1.50 billion, the country lags far behind in vaccinations. This work is very long term due to high population explosion in India but there are many other countries which have made very good progress in vaccination and collection of vaccines. Apart from vaccinations, India also lags behind in vaccine collections. Not even a single dose is available for at least one person. As per the information received, India was supposed to buy a total of 1.11 billion vaccine doses but out of that, only Rs 40.5 crore has been procured and there are still 202 million vaccine doses to be procured.

The United States of America is the first country in the world to suffer from corona infection. With a population of 3 crore, the country has bought 1.31 billion doses for its citizens and only 1.50 crore remains to be purchased. Canada has a per capita dosage of 4, Britain 3.2, New Zealand a per capita, the European Union 3.2 and the United States a dosage of 4 per capita. These figures show that even though India is the largest producer of vaccines in the world, it lags behind in vaccine collection. India has given more than 50 million doses of vaccine to more than 50 countries around the world. Vaccine friendly countries have given free vaccines to some countries.

Corona transmission in India was greatly reduced when vaccines manufactured in India were being exported. While there were very few positive cases, people were not serious about vaccination. But the importance of vaccination is being realized again when the second wave of corona erupts since March. Vaccination for every citizen of a country with a huge population is as daunting as climbing the Corona Vaccination Mountain but there was a special need to pay special attention to keeping the reserve stock of vaccines reserved for its citizens like other countries of the world.
