The festive season increases the likelihood of selling adulterated items in the market. Such corrupters do their work so meticulously that it becomes difficult for consumers in the market to understand the difference between genuine and counterfeit goods. Besan is in high demand during festivals and is used in many dishes. But did you know that besan sold in the market is also widely mixed.

The FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) has shared on its Twitter handle a technique for identifying adulterated besan. According to the FSSAI, the blenders mix flour made from khesari dal in the besan to make more profit so that the besan is not as pure as before and the body does not get the required nutrients.

However this fraud can be avoided by a simple trick. To do this, first take one gram of gram flour in a test tube. Then add 3 ml of water. Now add 2 mL concentrated HCL to the prepared solution. Then shake the test tube evenly and let the solution mix evenly.

If the besan in the test tube is pure, the solution will not change color. If pink color is seen on the surface of the solution, understand that it is mixed in the besan. In fact this is due to the reaction of HCL to the methanol yellow color. Both combinations give a pink color to the surface of the solution.
