Are diseases being missed or misdiagnosed? Shocking revelations in study on rising death cases

With the changing times, people's lifestyles are also changing rapidly. Due to work load and wrong eating habits, people's health is starting to be affected. These days people are falling prey to many common and serious problems. Be it diabetes or BP, people of all ages fall prey to such problems. But it is also true that if any disease or problem is detected properly in time, it can be easily removed. A recent study has revealed how the death toll is rising worldwide due to misdiagnosis of the disease. A report in the journal BMJ Quality and Safety has also made many startling revelations.

About 7.95 million people die each year in America due to misdiagnosis

According to this study, about 7.95 lakh people die every year in America due to misdiagnosis of diseases. The study has also revealed that problems in diseases like cancer are also caused by not being properly diagnosed. According to experts, stroke tops the list of misdiagnosed problems. Because of this, the victim's risk of death may increase in some situations. Also, 3 out of 4 people are at increased risk of serious diseases like heart attacks, infections and cancer.

A large percentage of medical emergencies are due to misdiagnosis

A study was conducted by a team of health experts to find out the impact on our health due to misdiagnosis of any disease. The study revealed that 11 percent of medical emergencies are due to misdiagnosis of the disease. However, its prevalence may vary depending on the disease. Research has also revealed that the misdiagnosis rate of heart attack is as high as 1.5 percent.

The cases of non-diagnosis of the problem in time are highest among people suffering from stroke

David Newman Toker, the study's researcher and director of the Center for Diagnostic Excellence, says that if errors in the diagnosis of stroke, sepsis, pneumonia and lung cancer are reduced by even 50 percent, cases of permanent disability and death could be reduced by up to 1.50 lakh per year. The researchers also reported that stroke sufferers had the highest incidence of undiagnosed problems in time.
