International Tea Day has previously been observed in tea producing countries like India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Kenya, Malawi, Malaysia, Uganda and Tanzania from 2005 to 15 December, but in 2015 India recommended to the United Nations that May 21 is declared International Tea Day, followed by the United Nations on December 15, 2019.
