If you are fit and young and do not have any disease, you will be drinking sweet tea very comfortably. But people suffering from diabetes or overweight have to stay away from sugar. Artificial sweeteners are the only option for them. It is considered good for health. It is claimed that this sugar substitute helps in controlling blood sugar levels and also aids in weight loss. However, a new study from the Cleveland Clinic warns that people who consume artificial sugars are at greater risk. The study is published in Nature Medicine.
Research was done on 4000 people
Erythritol is a popular artificial sweetener available in India and around the world. This study claims that long-term use of erythritol sweetener increases the risk of heart attack and stroke. 4000 people from America and Europe were included in this research. Among them were some people who were already at risk of heart diseases. Researchers have closely studied the effects of this sweetener once it reaches the body.
Erythritol is absorbed about 70 percent like sugar
The results of the research show that erythritol can easily activate platelets and form blood clots, the researchers said. Sweeteners like erythritol have become very popular in recent years, but more in-depth research is needed in this direction. "It's important to understand the long-term effects of substituting these 'artificial sweeteners' for sugar," said study author Stanley Hagen, MD and chairman of the Research Institute at the Cleveland Clinic. Erythritol is 70 percent digestible like sugar and is produced by the fermentation of corn. After entering the body it is excreted through urine. The study mainly warns about the risk of clots from this type of artificial sweetener.
