6.5 percent of Corona patients died within a year of being discharged from hospital, ICMR's shocking revelation
During the first and second wave of corona, 6.5 percent of people who were severely affected by the corona virus infection and had to be hospitalized for 14 days or more died within a year. This has been revealed in a study of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). However, 73.3 percent of these people were suffering from at least one or more diseases.
952 patients died
Researchers from the National Clinical Registry for COVID-19 (NCRC) surveyed patients who were critically ill but later recovered at 31 hospitals located in different regions of the country for a year. Meanwhile, a total of 14419 patients were contacted every three months. The study found that 6.5 percent or 952 patients died in one year.
The death rate of men is 65 percent higher than that of women
The study is published in the latest issue of the Indian Journal of Medical Research. It was observed that the death rate of men was 65 percent higher than that of women. Other deaths occurred within 10 days of discharge. Thus the average duration of discharge is fixed at 28 days. The statistics also show that the death rate was lower for young people and much higher for older people.
ICMR conducted a total of three studies
ICMR had launched a total of three studies including this one on Covid. The remaining two studies are also likely to be published soon. One is on covid vaccine clotting among 18-45 year olds and the other is on sudden death in the same age group.
