The drug has been shown to be effective in the treatment of coronavirus, British researchers claim

The World Health Organization has welcomed the preliminary results of clinical trials of the drug dexamethasone, an effective drug for severe coronavirus patients. This is good news and I thank the British government, Oxford University and a number of British patients and hospitals who have contributed to the success of this life-saving scientist. " Researchers have shared preliminary results of clinical testing of dexamethasone with the WHO.

For this testing, 2104 patients were suddenly given the drug compared to 4321 patients who were taking normal treatment. After 28 days, the drug showed a 35% reduction in deaths among the patients. Patients who needed treatment with breathing machines and only needed oxygen saw a 20 percent reduction.

The organization will conduct a detailed analysis on it in the coming days. More than 5,000 lives could have been saved if the drug had been used to treat patients in Britain since the onset of the epidemic, research says. The report said that 19 out of 20 patients with the corona virus recovered without being admitted to the hospital. Most of those who are hospitalized are also recovering, but some may need oxygen or mechanical ventilation. These are high-risk patients who can be saved with the help of dexamethasone.

In some other ailments these drugs are already used to reduce inflammation. The drug has also been shown to have a good effect on patients with ventilators. Their risk of death has dropped from 40 percent to 28 percent. The risk of death in patients who were on oxygen support has dropped from 25 percent to 20 percent.
