National Doctor's Day 2020: Find out why Doctor's Day is celebrated today.

National Doctors' Day is celebrated on July 1 every year to pay tribute to the dedication and sincerity of doctors. Doctor's Day is celebrated on the birth anniversary and Punyatithi to pay homage and honor to the country's renowned doctor Bidhan Chandra Roy. He was born on 1 July 1882 in Patna district of Bihar.

After completing his medical studies in Kolkata, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy earned his MRCP and FRCS degrees from London. He started his life as a doctor in India in 1911. He became a lecturer in Kolkata Medical College. From there he went to Campbell Medical School and then to Carmichael Medical College.

Who was Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy?

Dr. Bidhanchandra Roy has made a great contribution in the medical field. He tried to study for a doctorate from the prestigious St. Bartholomew Hospital in London but could not get into college because he was Indian at the time. Bidhanchandra did not give up and kept on applying to Dean for about a month and a half, finally accepting his 30th application by giving up on Dee. Due to his diligence, Bidhanchandra Roy obtained his degree in just two and a half years and at the same time became a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons. Doing so makes it possible for very few people.

After completing his studies, Dr. Roy came to India and did extensive work in the medical field. Dr. Bidhanchandra was born on July 1, 1882 and died on July 1, 1962. The same great physician Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy also became the second Chief Minister of West Bengal and is also called the Architect of the State of West Bengal for his visionary leadership. In the year 1961, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor.

How did Doctor's Day begin?

The day was started in India in 1991 by the former government. Since then, National Doctors' Day has been celebrated on July 1 every year. This day is celebrated to honor and pay homage to the great doctor of India and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal.

Significance of National Doctors Day

National Doctors Day is even more important. The main purpose behind celebrating this day is to express their gratitude to the doctors for their contribution. Doctors have been instrumental in improving India's medical facilities. If our country today is able to fight the epidemic of Corona virus, then the doctors of the country have made a huge contribution. Last year, Doctor Day's theme was 'Zero Tolerance to Violence Against Doctors'. The Central Government started celebrating this day in the year 1991.
