Cardiac arrest was also the cause of death of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and veteran Bollywood actress Sridevi before Saroj Khan. Many may be wondering if this is a cardiac arrest. Is this the same as a heart attack, or different? What is the difference between a heart attack and a cardiac arrest?

First of all, what is cardiac arrest?

Cardiac arrest involves the exchange of information between the inner parts of the heart. This causes a bad effect on the heartbeat. Attempts are made to control the patient's heart rate through cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). People who have had a heart attack before are more likely to have a cardiac arrest.

Sudden cardiac arrest occurs

According to the information, cardiac arrest occurs suddenly and no warning is received by the body. Electrical disturbances in the heart usually lead to impaired heart rhythm. This affects the heart's ability to 'pump' and makes it difficult for blood to reach our heart, brain or other parts of the body. In this condition the person falls unconscious in a very short time and the pulse also decreases. If left untreated, cardiac arrest can result in death within minutes.

What is a heart attack?

During a heart attack, the blood flow to some parts of the heart freezes. In case of heart attack, if the treatment is delayed, the damage to the heart and body is equally great. The symptom can be seen immediately and even after a while. The effects can last for hours or days after a heart attack. Unlike cardiac arrest, a heart attack does not cause the heart to stop suddenly.

Cardiac arrest and heart attack, both diseases are interrelated. Cardiac arrest is often more likely to occur during a heart attack and even during its recovery. However, in a heart attack the heartbeat does not stop immediately, so patients are more likely to survive a heart attack than a cardiac arrest.

Is death certain in cardiac arrest?

According to the British Heart Foundation, a problem with the electrical signal in the heart when it does not allow blood to reach the body can lead to cardiac arrest. When a person's body stops pumping blood, the brain becomes deficient in oxygen. In this situation the person becomes unconscious and has difficulty in breathing. No symptoms are already seen and the risk of dying from cardiac arrest is many times higher.
