There are at least 80 million people in India whose vision was blurred. His vision was impaired. According to a survey, such cases have doubled in the last three decades.

In 1990, 40 million people were living in a kind of blindness. At present, the number of such people has increased to seven crore and ninety lakhs. The details were revealed in a survey conducted by two international NGOs, Vision Loss Expert Group (VLEG) and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB).

The opinion of the experts associated with these institutions was that the habitation of the Indian people was such that it was causing blindness. The average age of Indians was 59 in 1990 but has now risen to 70. At the same time, there was a significant increase in the number of people with visual impairments. Currently, 70% of the blind people in the country are over 50 years of age. Complaints of eye problems were also increased in patients with diabetes.

One in every six blind people had diabetes. There are currently 116 million blind people in China. In comparison, 79 million people in India suffered from vision problems. The number of cases of near vision loss (presbyopia) in India has doubled in the last thirty years. In 2019, the number of such cases was 13 crore 76 lakh. It is a matter of concern that India has the largest population of the blind.
