The government will send vaccine purchases to the states and vaccination will begin
New Delhi, Dt
With the Drug Controller General of India (DGCI) in India giving final approval to two corona vaccines, Covishield and Covacin, many questions are now being raised about what the next course of action will be. Answering these questions, AIIMS director Randeep Guleria said that the vaccination program would be launched in the country soon after the government buys the vaccines and sends them to the states.
Covishield will be used as a primary vaccine and covacin as a backup option.
Randeep Guleria, director, AIIMS, said the central government would now buy vaccines from manufacturers and send them to the states as per their requirement. Vaccination will then begin. Both vaccines are manufactured in India so vaccination will not take much time. Today is a very good day for our country and this is a very good way to start the new year. It is low cost and easy to maintain. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said that vaccination would start in Makarsankrati on January 15 in Uttar Pradesh.
While India has approved two vaccines, Oxford and Bharat Biotech, the important question is who will be vaccinated. In this regard, Randeep Guleria said that the Oxford vaccine produced by the Serum Institute will be used as the primary vaccine. They already have five crore doses available and will be able to provide this vaccine at an early stage. In this phase, we will vaccinate about 20 million people. In case of sudden increase in corona cases in the country or the effectiveness of the Oxford vaccine is uncertain, Bharat Biotech's covacin vaccine will be used as a back-up option. By the early stages, India Biotech vaccine data will be available and can be used.
