New delhi date. 18 April 2021, Sunday

The second wave of corona has taken a dangerous turn, causing a shortage of oxygen for the treatment of corona patients in the country's hospitals.

On the one hand, the central government has decided to import oxygen from abroad to meet the demand, while on the other hand, it has approved the setting up of 162 oxygen plants in hospitals in various states of the country. The plant will be able to produce 154 metric tons of oxygen and hospitals will not have to depend on outside oxygen supply.

The Union Health Ministry said that 33 of the approved plants have already been set up. Five plants have been set up in Madhya Pradesh, four in Himachal Pradesh, three each in Gujarat and Uttarakhand, two each in Bihar, Karnataka and Telangana. One plant each has been set up in Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, Kerala, Maharashtra, Pondicherry, Punjab and UP.

On Friday, PM Modi held a meeting to review the state of oxygen supply in the country. It was agreed that the oxygen plant would run 24 hours a day and that the oxygen for industrial use would be given to the hospitals.
