In India, 4.5 per cent of cases are due to corona reinfection

New Delhi, April 7, 2021, Tuesday

Those who have been corona once do not understand that it will not happen to them again. According to a study by the Indian Council of Medical Research, one of the leading medical sectors in India, 4.5 per cent of people in India have re-infected with corona. The second phase of Corona transition has started in India. This wave is faster and more deadly than the first wave. Last Sunday, for the first time since the onset of the corona epidemic in India, the number of positive corona cases crossed one lakh in a single day. Once a corona has formed, it is called a reinfection.

According to the ICMR, a person who goes from negative to positive for 108 days after becoming positive is called a coronary reinfection. A team of scientists studied the cases of 1,200 people, of which eight cases came to Corona's attention again. However, the study included data up to October 2020. The study states that the process of SARS covid-2 reinfection is essential to increase precautionary measures. This study has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Epidemiology and Infection.

Some experts believe that antibodies develop in the body after coronary heart disease, but it is not clear how long these antibodies remain active in the body. Even after the corona is negative, a small amount of the virus remains in the body which is called persistent virus shedding. The incidence of this virus is very small and it does not cause fever or any other symptoms.

Such a person cannot infect others but can also be positive when tested. In such cases, it is only after genome analysis that a re-infection can be ascertained. The world's first case of re-infection was reported in Hong Kong last August. A 6-year-old man was infected with corona in March 2020. When he returned from Spain in August, he was again the victim of a corona. At that time, his genome was analyzed and a re-infection was confirmed.

Since then, there have been several cases of corona re-infection in the United States, Belgium and China. In August 2020, the ICMR in India confirmed seven cases of corona virus infection. The biggest cause of re-infection is a mutation in the corona virus. This mutation causes new strains of the virus to form. So there is no denying that once a person goes from positive to negative, the new strain can be re-infected. (Symbolic image)
