60,000 crore plastic bags are used in the world every year

Oslo, July 28, 2021, Thursday

Plastics are widely used for various types of packaging, with 20,000 crore plastic bags being disposed of in the world every year. According to this, 1 million bags are used every minute. Plastics are dangerous to the earth's environment because they do not rot for years. It acts as an inhibitor in the natural process of decomposition. Deficiency is very well known in food and meal materials as plastic packaging. Societies and household waste bins are also filled with use and throw waste plastic so plastic is added to the landfill waste heaps which quickly turn into a pile of waste. However, amid growing concerns about the use of plastics, there is hope that some researchers are looking for a technology to use grass fibers instead of plastic for food packaging.

Anne Christine Steinck, director of the Danish Technological Institute Center, believes that disposable packaging made from grass is a beneficial and sustainable solution to the environmental problem. Even if someone accidentally throws the food packaging in the road, it will not rot and remain as rotten as plastic. According to one source, tens of millions of tons of deficit material are thrown away every year. If this amount could be stopped, carbon emissions could be reduced by an estimated 210,000 tons. The goal of creating a food package from grass has been decided under a new project called Cine Propack. The use of green biomass for single use packaging will be important in developing a business model of the bio-economy.

If this succeeds, it will be the biggest change in the world of plastics and packaging. Green biomass is easily available in every country of the world. Green bio is already used for protein production. When we cut grass, it contains protein for animal fodder, then grass fiber and pulp for cellulose can be used in the production of packaging. The fiber that grows after the animals eat the grass is of no use to the animals. Grass contains 80% fiber in addition to protein which is an excellent option for packaging. In addition to the Danish Technological Institute, the research involves a company involved in the deficit industry. The company will test its efficiency by testing grass fibers and moving towards its commercial use.
