Is trying to joke blindly a symptom of mental illness?

Berlin, Saturday, November 20, 2021

Some people try to lighten the mood by telling meaningless jokes and timeless jokes. People with this mental state are sometimes making fun of themselves. According to research, the effort to relax is to remove the mental pressure inside oneself. In addition, it also includes the tendency to run away from the basic challenges of life.

Trying to make a joke without trying to do so suggests a certain kind of mental state. Researchers have dubbed this the habit of joking, which in German is called witsejlsach. In medical parlance this is caused by damage to the area between the fungal lobe and the orbit. This is the part of the brain that directly controls the communication waves.

The jokes, comments and jokes told by people with these mental disorders are very diverse. Sometimes these people are seen praising foolish people and foolish deeds. Surprisingly, people who make irrelevant jokes are not emotionally attached to what they are saying. When such people are admitted to the hospital, they make others laugh, but they themselves cannot enjoy laughter. This is a serious condition that can also result from trauma.
