At least this should be the BMI, a lower number also invites heart disease

New York, February 16, 2023, Thursday

It is generally believed that thinner people are less prone to heart disease. According to a research report in the journal Science, those who have a body mass index of less than 18.5 and are addicted to cigarettes are more likely to develop heart disease. When BMI is between 22 and 23, chances are low. Body mass index is the ratio between a person's height and weight. Currently, BMI has become an international measure of fatness. By which the condition of health can be known. However, BMI score is not applicable to pregnant women.

According to the World Health Organization, a BMI of 18.5 to 24 is healthy and a BMI of 25 to 30 is overweight, while a BMI of more than 30 falls into the category of obesity. The study found that people with a BMI greater than 23 had a higher risk of the disease. In particular, those with excess waist fat were found to be at greater risk. People with a BMI greater than 25 have a 13 percent increased risk of heart disease. However, researchers say that being underweight similarly increases the risk of heart disease. Hence BMI should be neutral in relation to weight and height.
