Tips to keep the liver healthy

1. Do not consume too much alcohol. This can damage the liver cells and lead to cirrhosis, which can be fatal.

2. Eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly. This will keep weight under control, which can help prevent non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

3. Sometimes this can also be caused by side effects of medications, pain killers such as acetaminophen or sulfa drugs can cause problems for the liver.

4. Viral hepatitis is a serious disease, which damages the liver. Hepatitis A can be contracted by eating or drinking water that contains the virus and causes the illness. If the disease is endemic in a country and you have to travel there, you can get a vaccine to protect against it.

5. Hepatitis B and C are spread through blood and body fluids. To reduce the risk, do not share items such as toothbrushes, razors or needles. Also use protection during sex.

6. Vaccines are available for hepatitis A and hepatitis B, so get vaccinated.

7. Excessive consumption of cigarettes is extremely harmful to the lungs as well as the liver. That's why you should not panic.

8. Some cleaning products and disinfectants contain chemicals that can harm your liller through direct contact. So you have to be careful.
