Sugar control is a bit difficult for diabetic patients. It actually depends on how fast the pancreas works and how helpful it is in digesting sugar, but when it slows down, sugar metabolism slows down. This causes the sugar in the body to rise and the symptoms of diabetes to increase. In such a situation you should know about vegetables with low glycemic index which consumption is beneficial for diabetic patients.

1. Carrots

Carrot is a vegetable with low glycemic index which is beneficial for diabetic patients. A GI score of 100 means eating about as much of something as sugar. Meanwhile, the lower the glycemic index, the slower your blood sugar will rise. Carrots have a GI of 16 which means it reduces sugar spikes and also speeds up the rate of sugar digestion by the body.

2. Onion

Onion is a vegetable with a low glycemic index and its antioxidants speed up the process of sugar digestion in the body. Apart from this, onions are high in sulfur which speeds up the working speed of pancreas cells and accelerates sugar metabolism. Apart from this, it is also helpful in protecting against cell damage in diabetes.

3. Broccoli

Broccoli has a GI index of 17 which speeds up the rate of sugar digestion in the body. Broccoli is high in fiber and roughage which speed up the working speed of pancreas cells and digest sugar faster. A diabetic patient can eat these vegetables either roasted or boiled.

4. Karela

Karela contains lectins that enhance hormonal balance similar to the effects of insulin in the brain. This lectin is believed to be a major factor behind the hypoglycemic effect that develops after eating bitter gourd, which helps in sugar control. Apart from this, it has a GI of 18 which prevents sugar spikes.

5. Milk

Milk is one of the foods with low GI index. It has a GI index of 15. It is 92% water rich and has a good amount of fiber and other nutrients. A diabetic patient can eat it in many ways. If you have diabetes then include this food in your diet.
