Eye infections are spreading rapidly due to increasing humidity, water borne infections and moisture. However, with proper care and precautions, you can protect your eyes from infection during the rainy season.

During the monsoon season there is a risk of water borne infections. Meanwhile, many eye related problems can be prevented by keeping the hands clean. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before touching your eyes or applying eye drops or medication.

Your eyes are more susceptible to infection during the monsoon season. Avoid touching or rubbing your eyes with dirty hands as this can introduce harmful bacteria or viruses, which can lead to eye infections.

Whether you wash your face or clean your eyes, always use clean, filtered water. Contaminated water may contain harmful microorganisms, which can cause infection.

If you're going out during heavy rain, protect your eyes with waterproof or wrap-around sunglasses. This not only protects your eyes from rain splashes but also protects them from dust and harmful UV rays.

Sharing personal items such as towels, handkerchiefs or eye makeup during monsoons can increase the chance of eye infection. These items may contain bacteria or viruses, which can be easily transferred from one person to another. Always use your own items and avoid sharing them with others.

If you wear contact lenses, special hygiene is necessary during the monsoon season. To care for your eyes, avoid wearing lenses in very humid conditions, as this increases the risk of eye infections.

A balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals is essential to maintain good eye health. Include foods like carrots, spinach, citrus fruits, nuts and fish in your diet, as these contain essential nutrients that promote healthy eyes. Drink enough water.
