Changing seasons, incidents of stubble burning and the festival of Diwali bring trouble to the people living in Delhi NCR. Every year in the month of October-November, people face many health problems due to air pollution and toxic air. Harmful particles found in the air like dust, coal, fumes cause problems in the body. Children and the elderly are especially affected by air pollution. This toxic air is affecting the immunity of children. Children are at increased risk of developing diseases such as pneumonia and bronchiolitis-inflammation of the bronchioles. It also affects the heart and lungs of people living in air pollution for long periods of time.

Illnesses caused by air pollution to children

Respiratory disease- PM 2.5, PM 10 and increase in nitrogen dioxide i.e. NO2 is having a bad effect on health. Due to this, the cases of asthma in children are increasing rapidly. Apart from this, respiratory diseases such as bronchitis and lung function problems can also occur.

Risk of infection

Children's immunity is weakening due to increasing air pollution. Meanwhile, respiratory infections like pneumonia and bronchiolitis soon affect children. Such children are at high risk of infection.

Late in development

Children who live in polluted environments during pregnancy and are exposed to pollution in the early days of birth may experience developmental delays. It can also affect the mental development of such children. These children are at risk of developing cognitive and behavioral problems.

Lungs not developing properly

Children who live in polluted environments also cannot develop their lungs properly. The pollutant weakens the lungs, making children more likely to suffer lung damage.

How to protect children from pollution

Check the air quality first when children go out, leave the house only if it is appropriate

If you are sending children out, put a mask on your face and glasses on your eyes

Make babies sleep every night to avoid the harmful effects of pollution.

Include foods rich in vitamin C and zinc in the diet to strengthen immunity

Make children do yoga regularly for lungs and good breathing which will reduce the problem

Use products with minimal fumes indoors. Avoid smoking cigarettes or tobacco.

Avoid crowded places while traveling and try to visit places with less pollution.

Involve children in outdoor activities that enhance green and open environment where pollution is less.
