91% inject drugs in country, every second person infected with hepatitis C, alarming report
every second person infected with hepatitis C: A report published by a shocking research has revealed that 91 percent injection is used to take drugs in the country, due to which approximately every second person is getting infected with hepatitis C. The incidence of hepatitis C infection is several times higher than that of HIVV. However, these people do not get timely examination or treatment. People who abstain from drugs are at the greatest risk of this disease.
The infection is spreading from the elderly to the young among the injecting drug users
A study conducted by Delhi AIIMS and Bangalore-based NIMHANS found that hepatitis C infection persists for a long time due to lack of treatment. These people can infect others through sexual relations. Not only this, a program is being implemented at the national level to get rid of hepatitis C infection, but the infection is spreading among the injecting drug users, from the elderly to the young.
Antibodies were found in 56 percent
According to the study, published in the Indian Journal of Medical Research, researchers enrolled more than 2,600 people between January 1, 2016 and January 1, 2021, but after examining the medical records of all, it was decided to continue the study on 391 people. During the analysis, the researchers found that antibodies to hepatitis C virus were present in 220 (56.26 percent) people, while 109, or 27.87 percent, were found to be infected with hepatitis C.
Addiction spread to new states
According to researchers, addiction to drugs by injection is increasing rapidly. Some time ago this addiction was most prevalent in the North and North-Eastern states of the country, but recently the number of patients falling prey to various diseases due to unsafe use of injections has increased in all the states.
