2,331 active cases of Corona in the country, know which state has the highest number of infections

Covid-19 cases: An increase in corona cases was seen in India in the last one and a half months. The highest single-day tally of 841 new cases was reported on 31 December 2023, with no increase in cases since then. Most of the total active cases (about 92 percent) are recovering with self-isolation and general treatment. According to the statistics released by the Union Health Ministry, the active cases of Corona have now fallen to the lowest level since December 21, 2023. Today, 355 new cases have been confirmed in a single day in the country and the number of active cases stands at 2,331.

In which states JN.1 most impact

According to information shared by the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) yesterday, the total number of cases of Corona sub-variant JN.1 in the country now stands at 1,226. Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have reported the highest number of cases so far. JN.1 has been found in 17 states and union territories. 234 of JN.1 in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh 189, Maharashtra 170, Kerala 156, West Bengal 96, Goa 90, Tamil Nadu 88, Gujarat 76, Rajasthan 37, Telangana 32, Chhattisgarh 25, Delhi 16, Uttar Pradesh 07, Haryana 05, Odisha 03, Uttarakhand 01 and Nagaland 01 cases are reported.

What is JN.1 sub-variant?

The first case of the JN.1 sub-variant in the country surfaced in August. The new variant is derived from BA.2.86, a sub-variant of Omicron. At the beginning of 2022, the main reason for the increase in corona cases was BA.2.86. BA.2.86 did not spread further, but it raised the concern of experts, because BA.2.86 had an additional mutation on the spike protein and, like it, an additional mutation on the spike protein of JN.1. Experts say that the increase in cases worldwide has revealed that JN.1 is a sub-variant of Omicro, which can easily infect people with strong immunity. The US Center for Disease Control (CDC) has revealed that the new variant is spreading rapidly.
