Is the baby at risk from corona positive mother's feeding?
New York, June 15, 2020, Monday
The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that a mother infected with the coronavirus poses no risk to her baby if she is fed. Citing an example from a Geneva study, Dr. Tedros clarified this two days ago. According to the study, breastfeeding a baby is more beneficial compared to the risk of contracting the virus. In this way, children are more likely to get covid-12 than young people, but breastfeeding can prevent many other diseases besides covid.
Thus in the current situation when the virus infection is increasing the baby is more useful to his mother's milk. Special emphasis needs to be placed on encouraging mothers of breastfeeding children in the world to breastfeed, not only if the mother's health is not very bad, but also the mother and the child should not be separated from each other.
Experts believe that so far no evidence of coronavirus has been found in breast milk. There are many cases in which fragments of the virus's RNA have been found in breast milk. Corona virus is made up of RNA i.e. a protein molecule but no live virus has been found. That is why the mother is not at risk of transmitting the corona virus to the baby in this way. The British Government Health Service also believes that the baby has not been found to be infected with corona from mother's milk. However, a positive corona mother needs to take some precautions when feeding the baby. The positive mother should not only wash her hands frequently but also keep her mouth covered.
