In a bid to curb rising pollution in the capital, New Delhi, the Delhi government has banned the use of high-pollution fireworks. It was also announced that a fine of Rs one lakh would be imposed if the violator was caught.

The Delhi government is set to launch an anti-cracker campaign from November 3. Eleven teams of Delhi Police will be formed for this. The team will be constantly moving in each area. At the same time, the state government will bring a green app to promote green fireworks. A fine of Rs one lakh was announced for those who set off firecrackers other than green ones.

On the one hand, with the onset of the standing harvest season in North India and Punjab-Haryana, the incidence of straw burning has been on the rise, causing unbearable pollution in Delhi. The state government decided to tighten its grip on Diwali after experts warned that fireworks would increase pollution.

According to an unconfirmed report, a fine of Rs one crore was proposed for those who set off firecrackers that increased pollution.

"We urge people to make and use green fireworks," said Gopal Rai, an environmental activist from Delhi, recalling the Supreme Court's 2018 ruling in this regard. Do not use fireworks that increase pollution. He also announced that 11 teams of Delhi Police would be roaming in every area of Delhi and catch the violators.
