A new strain of Corona virus has finally entered India. Eight people from Britain have contracted the new strain of coronavirus, the health ministry said on Tuesday. All these people have been kept in single isolation rooms in the health centers of the respective states and those who have come in contact with them have been quarantined, the ministry said. However, the health ministry said that people need not panic despite the emergence of a new strain of corona virus in the country. The government is keeping a close eye on people from Britain. In addition, the corona vaccine will be effective against new viruses. No evidence has been found that the corona vaccine has been ineffective against the new type.
The Ministry of Health on Tuesday said that three samples were taken from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuroscience Hospital (NIMHANS) in Bangalore, Karnataka, and three samples from the Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) at the Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. One of the samples was found to be infected with the UK variant of SARS-COV-2.
So far, a total of 114 British tourists have tested positive for corona. These positive samples have been sent to 10 different laboratories across the country for genome sequencing. Of those who tested positive for corona, seven samples were found to be infected with the new corona, the ministry added.
9 British tourists positive in Karnataka
Karnataka Health Minister K. Sudhakar said three people from Britain infected with the new type of corona have been isolated in different centers. The state has received 1,212 people from Britain who are undergoing RT-PCR tests. Out of them, corona test of 3 has come positive. On the other hand, a person from Britain to Chennai has been isolated at the King Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research.
20 out of 20 samples were examined in CCMB
A CCMB official said they had received 30 samples of corona-positive patients, who had returned from Britain. Three of them were found to be infected with a new type of corona. We have completed the genome sequencing process of 20 samples. The rest is under investigation. The three also included a woman from Amravati, who landed at the Delhi airport and fled to Andhra Pradesh by train.
In one month, 5,000 tourists came to India from Britain
New cases of corona have also been found in Britain, South Africa, Denmark, the Netherlands, Australia, Italy, Sweden, France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Japan, Lebanon and Singapore, the health ministry said. The government had banned all flights from Britain from December 9 after a new type of Corona was introduced in Britain. However, between November 9 and December 9, more than 3,000 tourists arrived in India from the UK at various Indian airports. The central government has teamed up with the states to find all the tourists and conduct their RT-PCR tests.
Guidelines for genome sequencing
The 'Genomic Sequencing' guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health on December 9 state that all international tourists who have come to India in the last few days who have corona symptoms will have to undergo genome sequencing. The Ministry has set up the Indian SARS-COV-2 Genomics Consortium to conduct laboratory and epidemiological surveillance and to understand the full genome sequencing of Corona virus in the country.
RT-PCR testing is mandatory in 10 labs from Britain
India has developed an active strategy to detect and prevent new types of corona, as part of which all flights from the UK have been banned from December 9 to December 31 and RT-PCR testing has been made mandatory in all 10 government laboratories for all returning tourists. Union Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said the ban on all flights from Britain could be extended till December 31. The government is currently exploring the possibility.
