Commonly used drugs have now been brought to the price ceiling. These include the anti-sugar drug teneligliptin, the popular anti-TB drugs, and the covidar drug ivermectin, the totavirus vaccine, and others.

The government began researching the list of essential drugs, which was notified in 2012 and peaked in 2016. The Standing National Committee on Medicines was then tasked with compiling a list of which drugs should be made available in sufficient quantities and in sufficient quantities.

A committee headed by Health Research Secretary and ICMR Director Balram Bhargava, a senior official of the policy commission, another committee comprising the health secretary and the secretary of the pharmaceutical department sends such a list.
