Stevia is well consumed, especially in Europe. China is a major producer and supplier of stevia. Stevia cultivation in India has also increased over the last few years.
The stevia plant has a lifespan of five to seven years and gives high returns as it has four shoots per year. Stevia plants cannot withstand temperatures below 6 સે C. As this is a sub-tropical crop, India has a favorable climate for stevia cultivation. Stevia can withstand temperatures ranging from 5 to 45 degrees Celsius.
This is obtained from a plant called Rabodia. Stevia leaves are shaped like basil. Chewing its leaves makes you feel very sore. That is why it is also called sweet leaf or sweet basil. People with type-2 diabetes tend to have higher sugar levels after meals but using this natural sweetness does not increase sugar levels.
Stevia is sold in powder or herbal form as an herbal product. Stevia leaves contain antioxidants such as flavonoids, tannins, caffeic acid, etc. Also contains Aryan, Protein, Fiber, Potassium, Magnesium, Sodium, Vitamins A and C.
