A heart attack occurs when blood supply to a part of the heart muscle stops. Blood clots usually occur.

Along with high BP, smoking, and high cholesterol, there are many lifestyle-related factors that lead to heart attacks. For example, smoking causes severe damage to the arteries and veins of the heart. Apart from this, increasing cholesterol causes many problems in the arteries of the heart. Apart from all these there are many reasons due to which the risk of heart attack increases. Pain during a heart attack that feels like pressure, tightness, squeezing, or heaviness in the center of the chest.

Pain or discomfort that radiates to the arm (usually the left arm), neck, jaw, shoulder blades, back, or even abdomen. Shortness of breath or rapid breathing.

Dizziness with profuse sweating, often cold and clammy skin during a heart attack. Feeling very tired. If you can't find a pulse during this time, start CPR immediately. It is important to start CPR immediately when the person is not breathing or only gasping. CPR uses rescue breathing and chest compressions to pump oxygen and blood to the heart and brain.

Most importantly, cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the leading causes worldwide. According to the World Health Organization, the number of people who died from CVD in the year 2019 was 1.79 crore. Out of which 85% deaths were due to heart attack and stroke. According to the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, the number of deaths due to CVD in India has increased from 22.6 lakh in 1990 to 47.7 lakh in 2020.

Do this as soon as you have a heart attack

If you notice someone near you gasping for breath, the first thing you need to do is check their pulse. After checking the pulse, one way is to place two fingers on the person's wrist or neck and feel for a strong, steady pulse. Place your ear to the person's chest to check for a heartbeat. If you cannot find a pulse or the person is not breathing, you must start cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) immediately.
