India's achievement in health sector: Prepared medicine for four rare diseases in one year, treatment cost reduced 100 times
India develops medicines for four rare diseases: The annual cost of treating tyrosemia type-1 was 2.2 to 6.5 crore rupees which has come down to 2.5 lakh rupees. which is a disease seen in children and if left untreated, the child dies by the age of about 10 years. Three other rare diseases include Gaucher, which causes enlarged liver and bone pain. Gaucher's treatment used to cost Rs 1.8 to Rs 3.6 crore per year, but now this cost has come down to Rs 3.6 lakh.
Also reduce the cost of treating the rare disease Wilson
One such rare disease is Wilson's, which is caused by iron accumulation in the liver and other psychiatric symptoms. His treatment with Trintin capsules cost Rs. 2.2 crore, which has come down to Rs. 2.2 lakh has been done. While earlier the cost of treating Dravet or Lennox was 7 to 34 lakh rupees per annum, but now the cost of treatment has gone up to 1.5 lakh rupees.
4 out of 13 rare disease drugs developed
According to media reports, 8.4 crore to 10 crore patients in India suffer from rare diseases. 80 percent of them are genetic, for which treatment is very important. A year ago, companies like Biophor India Pvt Ltd, Laurus Labs Ltd, MSN Pharmaceutical and Acums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals started working on 13 rare disease drugs. Drugs have been developed to treat four of them, while drugs for the remaining diseases are expected to be developed soon.
