Ginger is used in almost every Indian household. No dish or tea tastes incomplete without ginger. This is the reason why ginger is needed in Indian kitchens. Apart from enhancing the taste, it is also very beneficial for health. Apart from boosting our immunity, ginger also helps in relieving many health problems but it is said that some things can be very harmful.
Same with ginger. Consuming it in excess can cause many health problems. If you are one of those people who often like to drink more ginger tea or eat more ginger, then know its disadvantages.
Lowers blood sugar levels
According to some studies, ginger can help lower blood sugar levels, which can be beneficial for diabetics. However, if you eat ginger with diabetes medications, there may be excessive hypoglycemia in which blood sugar levels drop abnormally.
Digestive problems
Excessive use of ginger can cause digestive problems. Symptoms may include heartburn, gas, bloating and upset stomach. These problems are more common in people who suffer from digestive problems especially those who have a sensitive stomach.
Blood clotting problems
Anti-coagulant chemicals in ginger can cause problems with blood clotting. Excessive intake of ginger may increase the risk of bleeding. Especially in people who are already using blood thinners.
Diarrhea
Consuming too much ginger can sometimes have the opposite effect of causing diarrhea. This is because ginger has the power to cleanse the stomach and stimulate the digestive system.
Burning in the chest
Ginger is commonly used as a treatment for heartburn and indigestion but in some people overuse can worsen the symptoms. The spicy properties of ginger can irritate the food pipe leading to chest pain or irritation.
Allergies
Some people may be allergic to ginger. Eating too much ginger can make you more susceptible to an allergic reaction that can cause breathing problems, swelling, itching, or a skin rash. If you are allergic to ginger, seek medical help immediately.
Low blood pressure
According to some studies, ginger can be beneficial for people suffering from high blood pressure. However, ginger can cause hypotension or low blood pressure if consumed in excess. Especially when used with other BP lowering drugs.
