World Hearing Day: Increased use of headphones increases hearing loss by 10 percent

World Hearing Day: Advanced technology is a double-edged sword. In which its excessive use only leads to damage. Over the past few years, the prevalence of hearing loss in children due to excessive use of headphones has increased by 10 percent. Tomorrow is 'World Hearing Day'. Then the rate of hearing loss from an early age is a matter of concern.

One in 1,000 people has a problem of total deafness

3rd March is celebrated as 'World Hearing Day' since 2007 by the World Health Organization. This year's theme is 'Changing Mindsets: Let's Make Ear and Hearing Care a Reality for All'. According to the World Health Organization, individuals need to change their attitude towards deafness. It cannot be seen that ears and hearing can be normalized for everyone if the attitude towards this disability is changed. On an average, one person in 1 thousand people has the problem of total deafness.

Hearing impaired in children

In layman's terms, sound that cannot be heard up to 35 decibels falls under the category of deafness. Previously, hearing loss was more common in old age. But now the situation has changed and the rate of hearing impairment has increased in children as well. Excessive use of headphones, airpods, handsfree is responsible for this. It has also been found that many children use it at very high volume, causing their hearing to deteriorate.

In the last three years, there has been an increase of more than 10 percent in cases with complaints of hearing loss in children. Regarding this, the Head-Professor of ENT Department of Sola Civil Hospital Dr. Neena Bhalodia said, 'People go to the doctor immediately if they see a slight dimness in their eyes, but if hearing problems arise, the level of negligence is still the same. Many people consult a doctor when the hearing problem worsens. It is imperative to consult a doctor as soon as there is a sign of hearing loss. Cases of progressive hearing loss are also increasing in adolescents and young adults. In which the hearing is weakened in stages.'

What are the causes of deafness?

Viral infection during pregnancy, jaundice, premature birth due to any reason and some hormonal changes are also responsible for congenital deafness. Also, a disease called oestreliosis is responsible for deafness in women and is genetic.

Hearing loss risk of depression in the elderly

According to doctors, hearing problems in the elderly can be divided into three categories: mild, moderate and severe. Hearing aids prove useful in mild, moderate. Tuberculosis of the brain, high fever, melangitis cause total deafness in many elderly people. Hearing aids do not work for this problem and they have to seek the help of cochlear implants.
