- 14% of children needed a liver transplant and the disease affected 5 children
Washington, Ta. 07 May 2022, Saturday
In many parts of the world, the hepatitis B virus is causing serious liver problems in many children. The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention says it is investigating more than 100 possible cases of severe hepatitis in children, including five deaths. Cases of this mysterious disease have come up in 25 states and different regions. Hundreds of such cases have been reported in more than 2 dozen countries.
The disease claimed the lives of 5 children
The CDC has investigated 109 cases. All the children suffering from the disease were healthy at first but after contracting this mysterious hepatitis fever the liver problem became so serious that the children had to be hospitalized. Although most of the children have recovered, the figures so far show that 14 per cent of the children needed a liver transplant and the disease has affected 5 children.
Warning by CDC
A health warning was issued by the CDC last week urging doctors and public health officials to be vigilant about such cases. It has also been asked to start an investigation into the history of the case till October 1, 2021.
Investigate environmental factors around the home
Investigators are working hard around the world, including the US, to determine the cause of the disease. Environmental factors are also being investigated for this. It is also investigating other pathogens, including the presence of animals in the home. Concerns are also being raised about the Corona issue.
