Chaitra Navratri has started. Navratri is one of the major Hindu festivals and is celebrated for nine days. A large number of people worship Mother Durga by fasting for 9 days during Navratri. Fasting is considered to be beneficial for health in many ways but some precautions must be taken during it. Not eating anything while fasting can be harmful to health. Weight can also be controlled to a great extent by fasting. However, prolonged starvation during fasting is very harmful to health. Doing so can cause acidity, weakness and headaches. Not only that, prolonged starvation can lead to migraines. In such a situation everyone should know the right way to fast.

Healthy ways to fast during Navratri

- Drink at least 2-3 liters of water daily during Navratri Vrat. Keeping yourself hydrated is very important. Due to this, electrolyte balance is maintained in the body and no problem occurs.

- People should eat a lot of fruits during fasting. Dry fruits should also be consumed from time to time. Due to this, the body will get proper amount of nutrients and will not feel weak.

- Eat protein rich foods like paneer, curd and almonds during Navratri fasting. Protein takes time to digest and makes you feel full. Protein is very essential for health.

- Often you may have seen people eating fried foods during fasting but this should not be done. People should eat fried foods instead of fried foods. Oily things harm your health.

- One should not remain empty stomach for a long time during fasting. Eat something every 2-3 hours. Failure to do so may lead to headache, acidity problem. It can also be accompanied by weakness. That's why you need to eat something healthy.

Such people do not fast for 9 days

Dietician Kamini Sinha says that people suffering from diabetes, blood pressure, TV, cancer or other diseases should not fast for 9 days. Doing so may worsen their condition. Apart from this, pregnant women should also not fast for 9 days. Doing so may cause problems. If she is fasting after doctor's advice, eat plain salt instead of rock salt. Rock salt does not contain sodium and eating it can lead to sodium deficiency in the body. Even the elderly and children are not advised to fast for 9 days. Only healthy people should fast.
